The station, WMAL, also reportedly banned Grandy's wife from future broadcasts. The outspoken "Mrs. Fred" was a regular guest on his show.
Grandy, who before entering politics played "Gopher" on the hit TV show "The Love Boat," refused WMAL management's terms and left his broadcasting job with the station Tuesday. WMAL confirmed his resignation in a brief statement on its website.
In recent months, Grandy invited Muslim activists on his morning show, "The Grandy Group," to debate the threat from the radical Muslim Brotherhood. He also hosted several U.S. security officials – including former CIA, FBI and Pentagon officials – who all warned the Brotherhood was infiltrating Washington through its U.S. front groups.
James Lafferty, chairman of the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force, or VAST, a group that opposes the spread of radical Islam in America, blasted WMAL's management for "caving to the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) once again."
Washington-based CAIR routinely criticized Grandy for reading on air FBI reports and federal court documents identifying CAIR as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the federal Holy Land Foundation terror finance trial, as well as a member of the "U.S. Muslim Brotherhood."
"CAIR has been identified by the government at trial as a participant in an ongoing and ultimately unlawful conspiracy to support a designated terrorist organization – a conspiracy from which CAIR never withdrew," wrote assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Jacks, who recently won an award from Attorney General Eric Holder for convicting the Holy Land terrorists.
"From its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders," said assistant U.S. Attorney Gordon Kromberg in a separate terror case, "CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists."
As a result, the FBI cut off all ties to CAIR's national office and its 30 chapters around the country.
"Until we can resolve whether there continues to be a connection between CAIR or its executives and Hamas, the FBI does not view CAIR as an appropriate liaison partner," assistant FBI Director Richard Powers said. "The FBI has suspended all formal outreach activities with CAIR."
"In one cowardly move, WMAL has made history – it has become the first Shariah-compliant radio station in America," Lafferty said. "No criticism of radical Islam is tolerated at WMAL, and neither are articulate women with opinions."
He added: "WMAL's heavy-handed tactics underscore the truth in everything the Grandys have warned us about."
He explained that CAIR and other groups use charges of "Islamophobia" to censor debate about the creeping threat from Shariah, which seeks to outlaw criticism of Islam and other free speech. Lafferty warned that, in effect, Islamists are now determining what Americans can and cannot listen to on the radio.
It's not the first time WMAL, which did not return phone calls, has knocked a talk-show host off the air in response to CAIR complaints. Last decade, the station sacked Michael Graham, now a talk-radio host in Boston, for his outspoken views on radical Islam.
VAST has organized a protest against WMAL, which carries Rush Limbaugh and other nationally syndicated conservative shows.
"Monday (March 7) and Tuesday (March 8) are 'Call Out WMAL Days,'" the group said in a press release. "From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each of those days, we are asking people to call WMAL, at (202) 895-2350 and (202) 686-3100, and tell them you will not listen to their station until Fred and Mrs. Fred Grandy return.
"America expects radio stations to be committed to free speech and the truth," it added. "We expect WMAL to grow a backbone and stand up to CAIR and the other radicals.
"Then, at 10 a.m. Wednesday," the VAST statement continued, "we will meet at WMAL's studios – 4400 Jenifer St. NW, Washington DC 20015 – with signs to demonstrate our support for Fred Grandy and his wife and their courageous stand against radical Islam."
