Ariz. sheriff launches immigration sweep

SURPRISE, Ariz. — An Arizona sheriff known for cracking down on people who are in the country illegally launched a crime and immigration sweep in northwestern metro Phoenix on Friday, a half day after officials in Washington limited his powers to make federal immigration arrests.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose sweeps have led to allegations of racial profiling, said the rebuff from Washington won't stop him. He said he can still arrest immigrants under a state smuggling law and a federal law that gives all local police agencies more limited power to detain suspected illegal immigrants.

"It doesn't bother me, because we are going to do the same thing," said Arpaio, whose deputies had arrested 16 people by Friday evening on unspecified charges. "I am the elected sheriff. I don't take orders from the federal government."

The officers were participating in a federal program that grants a limited number of local police departments special powers to make immigration arrests and speed up deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stripped Arpaio of his power to let 100 deputies make federal immigration arrests, but renewed another agreement that allows 60 jails officers to determine the immigration status of people in jail.

The sheriff's sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix have drawn criticism that Arpaio's deputies racially profile people. Arpaio said people pulled over in the sweeps were approached because deputies had probable cause to believe they had committed crimes and that it was only afterward that deputies found many of them were illegal immigrants.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Arpaio's office over allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures.

"He is doing this to thumb his nose at the Obama administration," said Lydia Guzman, president of the Hispanic civil rights group Somos America.

The sweeps have discouraged some Hispanics who have witnessed or been victims of crime to refuse to call Arpaio's deputies, for fear of mistreatment, Guzman said.

Observers who are part of Guzman's group fanned out across the area of the sweeps with video cameras to record exchanges between deputies and motorists.

Arpaio said volunteers will use cameras owned by his agency to video-record deputies so viewers can see for themselves that they weren't doing anything wrong. Arpaio responded angrily to a question during a news conference about the costs of the cameras, saying they were paid through seizures in drug cases. "Dope peddlers bought the cameras," Arpaio said.

A dozen anti-Arpaio protesters yelled throughout the news conference. At one point, they chanted: "Order equals K-K-K — here's what Arpaio has to say."

Kris Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and an advocate of expanding local immigration efforts, said Arpaio's office — like every other local police agency — can detain people suspected of immigration violations for a day or two until federal authorities come to pick them up.

In the past, Arpaio could have held such immigrants for longer than two days and conducted investigations of smuggling rings, Kobach said.

"It's really a slight narrowing, but it's not much," said Kobach, who worked as an immigration law adviser to then-U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft from 2001-2003.

Dan Pochoda, legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing people who filed a lawsuit over the sweeps, said Arpaio still can't pull over motorists solely because they are suspected of being illegal immigrants.

"He can't do it under the terms he is claiming. He has indicated that he can stop people without the suspicion, based on what they look like, what they sound like," Pochoda said.

Arpaio said the Bush administration had no complaints about his use of the special federal powers, but all that has changed with the Obama administration.

"What's changed?" Arpaio asked. "Politics has changed, because they don't like us going on the streets to catch illegals."

This round of sweep, Arpaio's 12th, is set to end late Saturday.

Sen. Snowe and Collins, Go Home!

There is nothing unique about Sen. Snowe, or for that part Sen. Collins, voting with the Liberal Democrats. I believe any full report will show that Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins both vote with the Liberal Democrats at least 2 out of any 3 critical votes in the US Senate.

It makes you question as to why either one of the two continue to claim themselves as Republicans. Both are two of a few more who make Americans ask, ‘What is the difference between Democrats and Republicans?’ It is these 2 Liberal registered Republicans In Name Only (RINO), along with a few other Moderate to Liberal Republicans who continue to negotiate away the precious fiscal and social values within our GOP Platform. In giving away our precious fiscal and social values, the Democrats win, and American Conservatives lose.

ObamaCare, as it is currently being presented, and Cap and Trade, is an additional tax and/or penalties on the individual, as well as businesses. Everyone should know that all businesses must pass all taxes and penalties along to the consumers. These additional taxes and/or penalties on the taxpayers, and/or consumers, become more burdensome. Additional taxes and/or penalties on businesses make their own businesses less competitive in the world market, forcing layoffs and/or putting them out of business, thus creating more unemployment. The only solution to that cure is to put tariffs on imports forcing Americans to purchase American made products. That is fine, except until all other nations impose additional tariffs on American imports. When American businesses are not exporting their products and/or services, as foreigners are not purchasing because of increased pricing due to their own nations’ tariffs, this forces the American businesses required to lay off employees and/or go out of business. Forcing ObamaCare and/or Cap and Trade deteriorates out fragile economy.

Now would be an excellent time for Sen. Snowe, Sen. Collins and a few other RINO’s these to join President Obama’s Socialist program and Sen. Specter to go Liberal/Socialist to leave himself a legacy. This Obama Socialistic idealism is destroying the values for our forefathers’ freedoms.

Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins, go home to your Liberal Democrat Party! Shucks, take ‘Flimsy Lindsey’ Graham (R-SC) with you. With ‘Flimsy Lindsey’, the only Conservative vote Conservatives can count on is his support for our troops, and he is also a member of the Reserves. Could that be the only reason? Is ‘Flimsy Lindsey’ just serving himself?

Allow others to save our American economy. Let the Conservative Freedoms ring!

EU and America Race to the Top of the Prophetic Ladder

Thirty five years ago I watched people scratch their heads with a puzzled look on their faces when I told them that Europe would become a powerful nation around the turn of the century. When I addressed what would happen in the United States they listened but I may as well have been reciting verses of Shakespeare in Lithuanian.

My message is easier now for many people to understand but there is yet no rush to alter the course of the nation or even the simplest behavioral patterns of everyday life, even among conservatives.

America has always been engrossed in its own politics and national life to the point of not seeing beyond its nose, which in our case, is the Pacific and the Atlantic. Now with a President who prior to his election described himself as “a citizen of the world” and his decision to submit America’s sovereignty in part to the will of the United Nations we may want to take another look at the prophecies that have long predicted these events.

We are barreling blithely ahead with our unvetted President at the helm toward the fulfillment of prophecy, the shifting of world power and what will surely lead up to the Battle of Armageddon itself. These events will transpire regardless of how many believe or contrarily how many disbelieve them. They will not be changed or altered one whit by any exercise of men or angels. Prophecy is pre-written history and it is a pre-view not a prediction.

The accuracy in the fulfillment of all, pre, mid and post exilic prophecy coupled with the now fulfilled Messianic prophecies is what assures us, as it once did the Apostle Peter. It is what caused Peter to say “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,” and along with Peter we know we have what is known as “…a more sure word of prophecy.” (2Pet 2:16, 19)

Never before has the term ‘The devil is in the details’ been more apropos than it is today in the news coming out of Europe. Now that the Irish are to ratify the European Union’s Lisbon Treaty all that remains is the choosing of a president. Calls have been made from across the continent for a more charismatic leader to match or surpass any from the U.S. or any other world leader.

Paul-Henri Spaak the onetime secretary general of NATO and the first ever president of the UN General Assembly once said “We do not need another committee. We have too many already. What we want is a man of sufficient stature to hold the allegiance of all people, and to lift us out of the economic morass into which we are sinking. Send us such a man and be he god or devil, we will receive him.”

Oddly enough that leader will come in his due season and will be the incarnation of the devil himself. No, he will not look like the devil but he will be an attractive, statured and well poised political, military and economic genius fully aided by the ruler of the ‘kosmos’ ( the satanic ruler of the world system of evil) and he will indeed be well received as Paul-Henri Spaak has said.

The obstacles remaining to the EU dream are presently Poland and Czechoslovakia. The Czech President, Vaclav Klaus, stands alone against the might of the emerging EU and is also an outspoken opponent of the hyper-concern over global warming. In fact Klaus has labeled the entire global warming hype as a complete hoax.

Klaus along with millions of others in and out of the political class recognize global warming for what it is, a panic driven unifier being used as a sort of capo de causa or cause of causes or a base from which to gain political power from the unsuspecting. Green is a screen that is sufficiently blinding the eyes of a pro-modern world that hasn’t much else going for it anyway.

In America top level leaders are ignoring the best advice of a lifetime military expert and failed presidential candidate (McCain) on how to approach the rising need for more troops in Afghanistan. It should be no surprise that millions of ordinary citizen are ignoring the rants of another failed presidential candidate (Gore) on the subject of global warming. At least one of them is actually an expert on their subject.

The first choice out of the gate for Europe is unquestionably Britain’s Tony Blair. Runners up for first choice are Jan Peter Balkenende, François Fillon, Herman Van Rompuy, and Jean-Claude Juncker. According to scripture it will not be the first choices over the EU that will prevail but shortly after the forming of the union begins another figure will arise to usurp authority and displace three others in the top levels and thereby emerge as just what the doctor ordered.

Many beloved Catholics have not been well taught in eschatology and among Protestants the trends are not going well. Beleaguered with the prosperity gospel, the emergent church, dominion-ism, liberalism and a plethora of equally crazy new distractions the protestant brethren need a shaking among themselves. Don’t worry it’s on the way! The church is hovering somewhere between distracted and naïve and it will take a serious jolt to bring it in for a landing.

Students of prophecy have held for years that although the antichrist will come from Europe the dreaded false prophet spoken of in scripture will most likely come from an entirely different nation. Those who think it is America and that he is here today also realize that he will continue in power until the actual physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ who then personally removes him from power.  Let’s see.

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” (Rev 19:20)

Don’t worry eschatological and prophetic declarations will not be heard, heeded or believed by overwhelmingly large numbers of people like global warming hype, but that too is prophesied. The world will heed what it likes but prophecy will streamline down the track like a powerful freight train screaming to its final destination. Even those who understand these things would prefer that it didn’t have to happen this way but they are people who are true to their God and ultimately true to themselves.

We can hardly concern ourselves with the fact that the message is hard to take, seemingly crazy or almost completely misunderstood by most people. It comes from the most trusted source in history and it warns the most precious commodity on earth…men and women. It is as sure as the rising of the sun and is the only message that if heeded, can assure us that we will continue to see the rising of the sun in our future.
