Pence Amendment Fails in the Senate

by Andrea Lafferty

This was an easy test, and too many senators failed it.

Garnering only 42 of the needed 60 votes for passage, the Pence Amendment failed to pass the United States Senate this Thursday.

The shocking part? Anywhere from 60 to 75% of all Americans want to see Planned Parenthood defunded according to recent polling, yet the U.S. Senate denied the will of the American people once again -- flushing the nation's largest abortion provider with cash during one of the most difficult economic downturns since the Great Depression.

Disappointments abounded in the Senate vote. Self proclaimed pro-life Democrats such as Bob Casey Jr. and Joe Manchin joined liberal Republicans such as Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mark Kirk and Scott Brown in opposing the popular Pence Amendment.

What did these turncoats vote to support? Mark Crutcher with Life Dynamics recently revealed the entire archive of 813 different video and audio recordings where Planned Parenthood employees have been complicit in covering up sex crimes against minors, including acts of pedophilia.

Not a single bit of this information is new. Not only is Planned Parenthood's massive cover up of such horrors a matter of public record, Planned Parenthood does little to deny that it provides such services. This is what these 58 pro-abortion senators voted to support… and it's despicable.

Planned Parenthood remains the nation's largest abortion provider, consuming over $363 million in federal and state government funds and being responsible for over five million abortions since 1970.

Americans need to remember votes such as these. If we are ever to reclaim our nation from the false philanthropy that claims taxpayer funding of abortion providers is working for the common good, we need to boldly assert our values in the public square.
