What are Some Take Home Messages from Yesterday’s Election Results?

By Tim Dunkin

Well, yesterday certainly was an interesting day, wasn't it?  Things generally looked good for conservatives and Republicans - even in the small set of races that we didn't win.  I'll explain why this is the case below.  First, to recap the results of the important votes:

In Virginia, the Republicans swept the "Big Three" races - Governor, LtGov, and Attorney General.  And when I say "swept", I mean just that.  McDonnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli thrashed their Democrat rivals in what really was a bellwether referendum on Obama and the Democrats in Congress.  Remember, Virginia is now supposed to be the quintessential "purple" state, with blue cores in the urban areas, surrounded by a reddish exterior.  By all accounts, the blue areas were not so blue last night, and Obama was handed a huge personal rejection.  There was some definite buyer's remorse in VA last night, as Obama's appearances with Creigh Deeds leading up to the election seem to have done absolutely nothing for the Democrat - and quite possibly helped to drive more voters to McDonnell.

The big news, however, was in New Jersey, where Chris Christie, the (conservative enough) Republican defeated über-liberal Obamanista Jon Corzine by a margin wide enough to make Democrat vote fraud efforts ineffective.  Again, this race was a "win one for the Gipper" type race for the Democrats, where Obama's personal and political popularity was on the line.  And New Jersey just isn't that into him anymore.

Unfortunately, Doug Hoffman in NY-23 wasn't quite able to pull it off - this time around, at least.  Still, you have to admit that a come-from-behind push by an insurgent third party conservative who came within three points of defeating the Democrat - and that with a lousy "Republican" acting as a spoiler -  is impressive.  While I'm sure the Dems and other lefties will be spinning it today as some sort of crushing defeat for insurgent, "Tea Party" conservatism, this is simply not the case, though it does send a few messages that the more hard-core third party supporters may not like to hear (more below).

Granted, there are roughly 11,000 absentee ballots left to count, and the electronic voting machines in Fulton County (which went for McCain fairly strongly last year) broke last week and were impounded, which means those votes have to be tallied by hand, so are yet to be counted.  Still, I doubt these will be enough to pull it out for Hoffman, especially as most of the absentee ballots were cast before Hoffman really started to surge, and when Scozzafava was still viewed as a viable candidate.

In the CA-10 race, unsurprisingly, John Garamendi staved off a strong challenge from conservative Republican David Harmer to win the race by ten points.  This district does lean pretty heavily Democratic, and Harmer got basically no support from the national GOP apparatus at all (yet another failure on the part of the GOP "leadership").   Who knows what could have happened had the NRCC and RNC not wasted a million big ones on Dede Scozzafava in NY-23, and focused their monies on helping a REAL Republican instead?

All the same, the result in CA-10 ought to be a bit unsettling for Obama and his minions.  Garamendi won 53% of the vote.  Obama carried this district with 60+%, and Tauscher (the Dem who previously held the seat) routinely won it with around 65% of the vote.  The fact that a big name statewide Democrat like Garamendi (who was previously California's LtGov) only took 53% in a Democrat gimme-district shows that the "Obama effect" was in play even in CA-10.  The only problem is that the district starts out so much further left that even this wasn't enough (yet) to push it into the Republican column.

Some other results from last night?  In Pennsylvania, the state Supreme Court is now in Republican hands, with the victory of conservative Republican Joan Orie Melvin over her leftist Democrat opponent, Jack Panella.  The court now sits 4-3 for the GOP.  Also, in bright Blue Maine - a state that Obama carried 57.7% - 40.4% - gay marriage was handed a crushing defeat, as 53% of state voters chose to reject it.  Once again, we see that even neon blue states, when given the opportunity, reject the radical social initiatives of the Left.

So, now for some analysis.  What can we take away from these results?

Well, first of all, let's look at the NY-23 race.  Here, we see that the third party acted as a spoiler.  Of course, in this case, the third party was the GOP, whose liberal candidate helped to throw the race to the Democrat via her endorsement, while siphoning votes away from Doug Hoffman.  Let's face it, there are always going to be a certain percentage of voters who vote a party line, no matter who or what is on the ticket.  In a district in which the GOP carries a 45,000 voter registration advantage, there are bound to be thousands who will vote for the Republican, no matter what.  I suspect this to be the case in NY-23, and likely accounts for the roughly 6K votes that Scozzafava won (larger than the margin of victory for Owens).

The problem is, by the time Hoffman started to surge, there was really nothing that could be done about it - Scozzafava's name was on the ballot, she'd already got it into her head that she "deserved" to win, and that's all there was to it.  All the same, it is almost certain that if Hoffman had been the nominee to begin with - meaning that the GOP leadership at the county and district levels had actually had a clue - we would be celebrating a Republican retention today in NY-23.  The problem was vote-splitting, not the conservative message Hoffman brought, or the support of conservatives like Sarah Palin.

Take home message?  There are two:

First, third partyism doesn't work.  All it does is splits the vote, so that Democrats win.  The evidence is right there for us to see, and frankly, brooks no argument.  It's simple mathematics.  When you divide the vote that is in opposition to a Democrat among two other candidates, you will more than likely reduce both to a vote total lower than the Democrat's.  As I said, in this case, Scozzafava was the third party spoiler, but the lesson holds across the board.  Let's bury all this nonsense about third partyism.

Second, however, is that the typical elitist Republican "business as usual" won't work anymore, either.  Picking a candidate like Scozzafava who is radically out of step with both the Republican rank-and-file and with the majority of Independents is a losing strategy that just invites the conservative majority to dump you.  The message that NY-23 ought to send is that, in the ostensibly conservative party, you need to have conservative candidates.

Let's face it - the GOP has been bleeding members for years.  The GOP is at one of its lowest ebbs in listed membership.  This is NOT - and I repeat this for emphasis NOT - because they've been "driving away moderates."  It's because they've been driving away conservatives.  Conservatives make up 40% of the population, while Republicans only make up 20%.  That ought to tell the GOP where it's bread is buttered.  Imagine where the GOP would be if it could get conservatives united behind it, instead of driving them away and demoralizing them by running squishes like McCain and abject DIABLOs like Scozzafava?  I said above that third partyism is NOT the answer to conservatives' woes.  But the only way to defuse the third partyist tendencies which are fracturing conservatism is for the GOP to come back to the Right.

This will not drive away moderates now anymore than it did when Reagan brought the party way back to the Right in 1980, and when Gingrich did the same in 1994.  Moderates are fundamentally people who have little in the way of firm principles or convictions.  In a sense, they are people looking for a leader.  When conservatives step up and start presenting sound fiscal and social policies, start providing that leadership, the moderates will fall into line.  Bank on it, for it has happened before.  It should be little surprise to analysts that the period of GOP decline from 2004 onward coincides precisely with congressional Republican abandonment of the core principles of fiscal conservatism and personal liberty that the party once stood for.  When you don't provide leadership, when your platform is to provide just slightly less spending than the other guy, when you are supporting the same TARP bailouts and No Child Left Behind and hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending programs that the Democrats are, don't be surprised when moderates sense your lack of leadership, and abandon you.  I repeat - first and foremost, what moderates are looking for is leadership, not ideological compromise.  Provide it, and they will come.

So, combining these two lessons, we see a simple solution for the GOP - put forward, support, and get behind the conservative candidates that the rank-and-file of the GOP wants.  We don't need third parties, nor do we out-of-touch party hacks trying to push the Party to the Left - we just need the Republican Party leadership to do its job of representing the wishes of the base of their own Party.

Another lesson we can learn from the results of this election is that those big bad scary social conservatives really aren't so scary to normal people.  Sure, radical leftist fanatics may find them frightening, but by all accounts, the average voter does not.

After all, Bob McDonnell, who just won big in VA, is the epitomé of the "scary SoCon".  He's firmly socially conservative right down the line on every issue.  He even wrote a religiously-based thesis twenty years ago which basically advocated for women to stay at home with the kids!   The Democrats and the Washington Post tried to play this to the hilt, making it one of their central arguments against him.  Net effect?  McDonnell won bigger than any Republican has statewide in Virginia for 15 years, even polling quite well in upscale, socially liberal northern Virginia.  In short, people didn't care.  Social conservatism didn't bother them.

Likewise, we see that New Jersey now has its first pro-life governor in decades.  Chris Christie opposes abortion, and he opposes gay marriage - the two signature issues of the so-called "Religious Right."  Again, net effect on the race in socially liberal New Jersey?  Nada.

And what about Maine, where a genuine social issue that divides the nation was on the line, and where there can be no argument about other mitigating factors concerning a specific candidate?  Again, social conservatism won.  Gay marriage lost.  Bright blue Maine handed the gay mafia a stunning defeat.  End of story.  Not only was social conservatism not scary in this case, but it succeeded in attracting enough votes to win in one of the most liberal states in the union.  This follows closely on the lesson we should all have learned last November, when the only kind of conservatism that won in 2008 was social conservatism.  Remember the defeats for gay marriage in California and Florida?  The defeat for gay adoption in Arkansas?  The defeat for affirmative action in Nebraska?  Indeed, if the two initiatives had not been so poorly written, to the point where many pro-life advocates didn't even support them, the anti-abortion efforts in Colorado and South Dakota would probably have succeeded as well.

All in all, social conservatism - despite the arguments from people like David Frum and Kathleen Parker - is not a loser for the GOP.  Indeed, these issues serve as one of the few bridges for the GOP to minority voters - people who have little attraction to the fiscally conservative "rugged individualism" of the libertarian wing of the GOP.

Speaking of which, in CA-10, we see that running the libertarian line - emphasizing fiscal issues to the complete and total exclusion of any mention of social issues - certainly didn't help David Harmer win.  It's doubtful that the occasional statement of opposition to abortion or gay marriage would have hurt him.  I'm not saying that he should have gone out there and cut loose with both barrels about social issues, but I do think the drive to minimize talk about socially conservative positions by GOP candidates is misplaced, and ultimately detrimental to the Party's competitiveness nationwide.  Just something to keep in mind as we move ahead.

So where does the GOP go from here, if it wants to continue its winning streak, and maintain its competitiveness?  Really, the answer is not anything new.  It is to return to the tried and true movement conservatism of Ronald Reagan and the 1994 Republican Revolution.  Return to the conservative principles of smaller government, traditional values, strong national defense, and fiscal responsibility.  It really is as simple as that.  If and when the GOP, nationally and across the board, gets serious about providing the voters of this nation with a genuine alternative, instead of being the party of Dede Scozzafava-style "me-too moderates," the voters will reward them with the opportunity to govern this nation again.  Let that be the take home message.

Planned Parenthood's abortion quotas exposed

Ex-director: We'd have client goal every month

By Chelsea Schilling

A former director of a Texas Planned Parenthood branch who resigned after she watched an ultrasound-guided abortion told WND the clinic was pushing employees to strive for abortion quotas to boost profits.

"There are definitely client goals," former clinic director Abby Johnson said. "We'd have a goal every month for abortion clients and for family planning clients."

Johnson, 29, said the Bryan, Texas, Planned Parenthood clinic performed surgical abortions every other Saturday, but it began expanding access to abortion to increase earnings.

"One of the ways they were able to up the number of patients that they saw was they started doing the RU-486 chemical abortions all throughout the week," she said.

I'm not sure what they're scared of. When I first got the restraining order, I was so surprised. My initial response was, what do they think I know? What are they feeling guilty about?

RU-486 chemical abortions kill the lining of the uterus, cutting off oxygen and nutrients, resulting in the death of an unborn baby. Johnson said the chemical abortion costs the same as an early first-trimester abortion: between $505 and $695 for each procedure.

She told WND the clinic was experiencing financial difficulties due to the economic downturn.

"Abortion is the most lucrative part of Planned Parenthood's operations," she said. "Even though they're two separate corporations, all of the money goes into one pot. With the family planning corporation really suffering, they depend on the abortion corporation to balance their budget, help get them out of the hole and help make income for the company."

She continued, "They really wanted to increase the number of abortions so that they could increase their income."

Now Planned Parenthood has retaliated against Johnson, filing a restraining order against her because the clinic fears she may leak confidential information.

The Brazos Valley Coalition for Life, a pro-life group that recently moved its headquarters several hundred feet away from the clinic, is named on the temporary restraining order as well. The injunction temporarily prevents her from releasing information until after a hearing scheduled for Nov. 10 in the 85th District Court.

Planned Parenthood claimed in court documents that Johnson copied private personnel files and other documents before she quit her position Oct. 6. The abortion provider's lawyers expressed concern that Johnson would disclose client medical records, doctor information and clinic security procedures. The restraining order contends Planned Parenthood would be irreparably harmed by an information leak.

However, Johnson told WND, "I don't have any confidential documents, so I'm not sharing anything because I don't have anything. I have no patient information. I'd never do anything to compromise patient safety or confidentiality. For them to even make that type of statement is so offensive."

Planned Parenthood of Southeast Houston released the following statement Oct. 30: "We regret being forced to turn to the courts to protect the safety and confidentiality of our clients and staff, however, in this instance, it is absolutely necessary."

Johnson said she's not sure why Planned Parenthood is so concerned.

Planned Parenthood is an organization that really runs on fear. If somebody crosses them, they are quick to threaten that person. I've worked for them for a long time and seen them threaten lawsuits multiple times

"Planned Parenthood is an organization that really runs on fear. If somebody crosses them, they are quick to threaten that person. I've worked for them for a long time and seen them threaten lawsuits multiple times," she said. "I'm not sure what they're scared of. When I first got the restraining order, I was so surprised. My initial response was, what do they think I know? What are they feeling guilty about?"

Asked whether she believes Planned Parenthood is concerned that information about its quotas will become public, Johnson responded, "Probably, yeah. I think they're just scared of the whole thing."

She said she believes the injunction is simply a scare tactic meant to keep her quiet.

"Clearly, that kind of backfired," she said.

Johnson explained that she resigned after she saw an ultrasound-guided abortion in which an unborn baby was vacuumed out of a woman's uterus.

"Ultrasound-guided abortions are not typically done in Planned Parenthood abortion centers because they're more time consuming, and that's just not something that centers like that do," she said. "I'd never seen one of those done before. For whatever reason, the physician had called me back to assist with the procedure. When I saw that, that was really when my heart was changed."

Johnson, who was employed at the clinic for eight years and served as a director for two years, said the issue of abortion was "unsettling" for her the whole time she worked with Planned Parenthood. She said she kept "pushing down the guilt" and felt spiritually unsettled.

"There's no religion and there's no spirituality in an abortion clinic. There can't be," she said. "Whatever side you are on, pro-life or pro-choice, it is what it is – and that's taking a human life."

One year on, Obama cites struggle with Bush legacy

By Ross Colvin

A year after his historic election, President Barack Obama sought to remind Americans on Wednesday the biggest problems he is grappling with -- from the economy to the war in Afghanistan -- are the legacy of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

With his approval ratings down from once-lofty levels and Tuesday's Democratic election losses raising questions about his political clout, Obama held no special ceremony to mark the anniversary of his election as America's first black president.

He instead traveled to Wisconsin to appear before a friendly audience in a school gymnasium and promote education as a pillar of his economic recovery efforts.

Obama was elected on a promise of sweeping change after eight years under Bush, but many Americans are increasingly expressing impatience that his pledge has yet to bear fruit.

He used the preamble of his speech to insist his administration had indeed had important successes and also to remind Americans of the litany of daunting challenges he inherited when he took office in January.

"One year ago, Americans all across this country went to the polls and cast ballots for the future they wanted to see," Obama said.

But he said his administration was also confronted with a "financial crisis that threatened to plunge our economy into a Great Depression, the worst that we've seen in generations."

"We had record deficits, two wars, frayed alliances around the world," Obama added.

He said his administration had acted swiftly to save the economy from "imminent collapse."

"While we still have a long way to go, we have made meaningful progress toward achieving that goal," he said.

Nine months into his term, Obama's Republican critics have accused him of overplaying the "blame card" against Bush, a Republican who left office with one of the lowest poll ratings of any modern president.

Obama has seen his own approval numbers fall to the 50 percent range from above 70 percent as he struggles to push through a healthcare overhaul, reverse massive job losses and decide whether to send more troops to an increasingly unpopular war in Afghanistan.

He took another hit to his political standing on Tuesday when voters elected Republicans in state governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey despite his personal campaigning for the Democratic candidates. The White House denied the election losses were in any way a referendum on the president.

Unhealthy Taxes

Health Care: The giant health care bill that just passed will cost far more than its authors estimated. Which means it'll also require massive new tax hikes on all Americans, rich, middle class and poor alike.

Congress has barely finished blowing the ink dry on its bill, but already its central fiscal premise is being convincingly challenged.

While Democrats have claimed the overhaul will cost $900 billion, the Congressional Budget Office puts the real cost at $1.1 trillion. The Associated Press, citing unnamed Democratic sources, comes up with $1.2 trillion; Republicans say it'll cost $1.3 trillion or more; others say it's more like $1.8 trillion.

In short, the bill will spend far more than now estimated over the next 10 years, and certainly more than $1 trillion — requiring at least that much in subsidies.

This means more taxes, of course. Oh, they say only the rich will be affected. And to be sure, the rich do get taxed in this bill — mainly with a new 5.4% levy on those earning more than $500,000. This will raise the new top rate from 39.6% to 45% — highest since the Carter years.

But remember last year's solemn pledge — actually, it was a promise — that the bottom 95% of taxpayers wouldn't see their taxes rise one dime during the new administration? Well, kiss that one goodbye. In fact, the 1,990-page House bill contains 13 separate tax hikes on Americans, hitting virtually every income class.

Among them: an Employer Mandate Excise Tax, an Individual Mandate Surtax, an Excise Tax on Medical Devices, a Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses, a tax on nonqualified Health Savings Account distributions and a cap on Flexible Savings Account spending.

There's even a Medicine Cabinet Tax. We are not making this up.

If you're shocked by all this, you shouldn't be. This is how Congress works these days: Promise one thing, deliver another, and count on constituents being too distracted and frightened to notice what exactly is going on.

It would be bad enough if this was just about taxes. But it isn't. GOP critics scoured the bill and found it contains the seeds of 111 new bureaucracies. They range from a new Retiree Reserve Trust Fund and Health Insurance Exchange to a Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research and an Office of Indian Men's Health (one of 10 new entities just to handle Native American health care).

It even contains — get this — a "program of administrative simplification." This bill has Leviathan written all over it.

If the size and power of the insurance industry scares you — health insurers posted revenues of about $405 billion in 2007 — consider that Democrats want to control a $2.5 trillion chunk of the economy that dwarfs what insurers make. That's why Pelosi & Co. villainize that industry — so you'll let them take over.

If they do, you can be sure of one thing: They won't be as efficient or as responsive to individuals as private insurers are. And once in control, government will grow without bounds — endangering all our liberties, not to mention our economy.

Republicans have a much better plan

by John Boehner

By now, the American people have made it crystal clear to Washington that what they want out of healthcare reform is a plan focused on reducing costs, not growing government.

Unfortunately, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and House Democratic leaders ignored Americans' concerns and wrote a bill that would implement a government takeover of healthcare that actually increases costs and adds to our already skyrocketing debt.

Speaker Pelosi's healthcare bill represents 1,990 pages of bureaucracy designed to centralize healthcare decision making in Washington, D.C., at the expense of patients and doctors. It will require tens of thousands of new federal employees.

It will create dozens of boards, bureaus and commissions in charge of coming up with new regulations and red tape that will inevitably make healthcare in this country more expensive.

Indeed, Speaker Pelosi's bill will lead to higher health insurance premiums and impose new burdens on taxpayers from all walks of life and the nation as a whole.

Even though President Obama declared to Congress that the cost of healthcare reform would not exceed $900 billion over the next decade, Speaker Pelosi's bill clocks in at more than $1 trillion -- and counting.

The final price tag is sure to be higher as we continue to discover the bill's hidden costs.

There is nothing secret, however, about the fact that Speaker Pelosi's healthcare bill would raise taxes on working families. This applies even to those making less than $250,000, despite President Obama's repeated pledges to the contrary.

Speaker Pelosi's healthcare bill also delivers a crushing blow to small businesses in the form of burdensome mandates that will kill the jobs needed to get our economy back on track.

If that weren't enough, Speaker Pelosi's healthcare bill also calls for drastic Medicare cuts, leaving seniors with reduced benefits and fewer choices.

This will especially hurt those on Medicare Advantage, a successful program that nearly one million Floridians rely on.

In short, Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-page government takeover of healthcare fails to fix what's broken and undermines what works.

There is a better way. Republicans unveiled a plan in June that makes healthcare more affordable and accessible at a price our nation can afford. These are four smart, fiscally responsible reforms Republicans would implement right now to lower costs:

• Let individuals and families purchase health insurance across state lines;

• Allow individuals and small businesses to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do;

• Give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower healthcare costs.

• End junk lawsuits that contribute to higher healthcare costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

Visit http://healthcare.gop.gov to learn more about the Republican plan to lower healthcare costs.

We now have a choice.

We can work together to implement smart, fiscally responsible reforms that improve Americans' healthcare or we can recklessly pursue this partisan government takeover that creates far more problems than it solves.

It's clear where the American people stand. They're frustrated and fed up.

The trillion-dollar ``stimulus'' isn't working.

Unemployment is rising.

The debt to be paid by our kids and grandkids is exploding.

And now comes Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-page government takeover of healthcare.

We simply cannot afford another Washington program that overspends and underdelivers.

Republicans will continue to stand on principle and fight for our better solutions to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for American families.

Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, is the Republican minority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Republican Health Care Plan Offers Alternatives To Nationalized Health Insurance

The Republican Leadership in the House of Representatives is offering alternative legislation to H.R. 3962, Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s 1,990 page monstrosity that nationalizes health care, funds abortion and creates 111 new federal bureaucracies.

The Republican bill is 219 pages long. Read the Republican health care bill here: Republican substitute

The Republicans have issued the following summary of their legislation. We are reprinting the summary below:

Republicans’ Common-Sense Reforms Will LOWER HEALTH CARE COSTS

Americans want a step-by-step, common-sense approach to health care reform, not Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s costly, 1,990-page government takeover of our nation’s health care system. Republicans’ alternative solution focuses on lowering health care premiums for families and small businesses, increasing access to affordable, high-quality care, and promoting healthier lifestyles – without adding to the crushing debt Washington has  placed on our children and grandchildren. Following are the key elements of Republicans’ alternative plan:

  • Lowering health care premiums. The GOP plan will lower health care premiums for American families and small businesses, addressing Americans’ number-one priority for health care reform.

  • Establishing Universal Access Programs to guarantee access to affordable care for those with preexisting conditions. The GOP plan creates Universal Access Programs that expand and reform high- risk pools and reinsurance programs to guarantee that all Americans, regardless of pre-existing conditions or past illnesses, have access to affordable care – while lowering costs for all Americans.

  • Ending junk lawsuits. The GOP plan would help end costly junk lawsuits and curb defensive medicine by enacting medical liability reforms modeled after the successful state laws of California and Texas.

  • Prevents insurers from unjustly cancelling a policy or instituting annual of lifetime spending caps. The GOP plan prohibits an insurer from cancelling a policy unless a person commits fraud or conceals material facts about a health condition. It also prohibits insurance plans from instituting annual or lifetime spending limits.

  • Encouraging Small Business Health Plans. The GOP plan gives small businesses the power to pool together and offer health care at lower prices, just as corporations and labor unions do.

  • Encouraging innovative state programs. The GOP plan rewards innovation by providing incentive payments to states that reduce premiums and the number of uninsured.

  • Allowing Americans to buy insurance across state lines. The GOP plan allows Americans to shop for coverage from coast to coast by allowing Americans living in one state to purchase insurance in another.

  • Codifying the Hyde Amendment. The GOP plan explicitly prohibits all federal funds, whether they are authorized funds or appropriated funds, from being used to pay for abortion.

  • Promoting healthier lifestyles. The GOP plan promotes prevention & wellness by giving employers greater flexibility to financially reward employees who adopt healthier lifestyles.

  • Enhancing Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). The GOP plan creates new incentives to save for future and long-term care needs by allowing qualified participants to use HSAs to pay premiums.

  • Allowing dependents to remain on their parents’ policies. The GOP plan encourages coverage of young adults on their parents’ insurance through age 25.

PelosiCare Vote Looms This Weekend!

By TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty

Democrat leaders in the House are rushing through a vote on Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s 1,990-page health care bill this Saturday. (Pelosi’s bill nationalizes health care and creates 111 new federal bureaucracies!)

Pelosi dropped her bill (H.R. 3962) just last week and expects legislators to have read, absorbed and understood the 1,990 pages of legalese in it.

Pro-Life legislators have zeroed in on sections in the bill that will be used to mandate abortion coverage as part of a government-run health care program.

Pelosi’s bill currently authorizes federal funding for abortion in the public option and subsidies for private insurance that includes abortion through affordability credits.

TAKE ACTION:

  1. Urge your Representative to vote YES on the Stupak/Pitts amendment and NO on the passage of PelosiCare, ObamaCare Or HarryCare in the Senate. No legislation must be passed that creates a socialized health care system in America.

Democrat Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-IN) is offering an amendment that will still permit abortion in the government-run program but would force providers to contract out administrative functions related to paying for elective abortions.

TVC Executive Andrea Lafferty delivered a box of petitions against socialized health care to Ellsworth's office on November 4 -- just days before the vote on Pelosi's plan to nationalize health care.

TVC Executive Andrea Lafferty delivered a box of petitions against socialized health care to Ellsworth's office on November 4 -- just days before the vote on Pelosi's plan to nationalize health care.

As pro-life New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith has stated: “Today we see yet another phony amendment designed to subsidize and expand the abortion industry cloaked in deceptive language. The new language makes clear that abortion will be included in the public option. Under the new arrangement, instead of an HHS employee issuing blood money checks for elective abortions, HHS will pay a contractor to issue checks for abortion on demand. It is a distinction without a difference. The public should not be fooled nor should any pro-life Democrat.”

According to Smith, the Ellsworth amendment “… amounts to the federal government taking out a ‘contract’ on the unborn. For the first time ever an elaborate government program will be created to pay contractors to pay abortionists for the dismemberment, chemical poisoning, and in utero starvation of innocent unborn children.”

Smith and other pro-life Members of Congress are pushing for a vote on the bipartisan Stupak/Pitts amendment that will permanently prohibit funding for abortions and plans that include abortion coverage.

TVC supports the Stupak/Pitts amendment to H.R. 3962, but still opposes passage of PelosiCare or any other liberal plan to nationalize our health care system.

A CLEAR explanation for what is happening in our nation today

click to see full size coverGet your copy of THE AGENDA by Rev. Louis P. Sheldon and purchase extra copies to give to your pastor, neighbors, friends, and associates.

This is one of the most important books to be written in the past 20 years—and it needs to be in the hands of millions of Americans.

THE AGENDA describes how homosexual activists plan on recruiting your children into the lifestyle; how they’re undermining traditional marriage; and how they will eventually criminalize any public criticism of homosexual conduct. (It’s already happening in Canada where the gay agenda is well advanced.)

Former Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts has said of THE AGENDA: “This powerful and hard-hitting book lays bare the reality and risks of the homosexual agenda.”

Author Rev. Louis P. Sheldon has issued a call for all Christians to actively oppose the homosexual agenda: “The homosexual agenda is an attack on everything our Founding Fathers hoped to give us. But I am convinced that we can witness a tremendous victory, and with God’s help, we shall overcome.”

Purchase a copy for yourself and a half dozen or more to hand out to your associates! Help us get the truth out about the dangers facing our nation from THE GAY AGENDA.

ELEMENTARY EPIDEMIC: 11 Uncovered Videos Show School Children Performing Praises to Obama

by John Nolte

There are already posted disturbing videos of young school children singing/speaking praises to President Obama, but when eleven more dropped in our email box it came as quite a shock. What seemed like an aberration now appears to be a troubling pattern.

Maybe “epidemic” is a better word.

Each one of the videos below is creepier than the last because the further down you go, the younger the children — brace yourself for kindergartners –  except for the last and most disturbing video, which you have to see to believe.

village-of-the-damned-kids

Young captive minds, easily influenced, eager for direction, enlisted into a cult of personality focused on an individual who, other than being the first black president, has yet to accomplish anything of significance.

But Obama’s skin color has nothing to do with this. Does anyone interested in retaining their merit badge for intellectual honesty really want to argue that Condi Rice or J.C. Watts would’ve spawned a dozen-and-counting tribute videos?

This is about brainwashing our children into Leftist identity politics. Sure, the schools can argue that they had some kind of parental permission — which, if true, is somehow even more disturbing — but who even considers doing something like this with young minds? That’s a rhetorical question.

There was some guesswork, but to the best of our ability the videos run from oldest to youngest, starting with high schoolers. We list the name of the school and the date the video was posted. From there, if it could be found (or a confident guess made), you’ll find the schools’ website, followed by the original title given to the video and any notes added by whoever uploaded to YouTube.

Each video has also been transcribed so you can follow the bouncing ball…

WEST HIGH SCHOOL — 12-6-08

This is the school’s probable website. What’s going on here is explained below in the video notes.

Video Title: “Multico’s Finale is Obama’s victory speech!

Video Note: Each year, MULTICO, a company of West High School students chosen to reflect the diverse ethnic and racial population of Madisons schools, tours elementary and middle schools with an original thirty minute production focusing on the concerns and experiences of children and adolescents in a multicultural, multilingual urban environment. MULTICO, a two hour a day English class, writes and performs a series of short sketches that highlight race, gender, sexuality and conflict, providing another tool for classroom teachers to use as we all work towards a more empathetic world.

Transcript:

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, today is your answer.

It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled — Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of red states and blue states; we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other.

The true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope.

For that is the true genius of America — that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

America, we have come so far. But there is so much more to do. This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time — to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and to restore the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

Yes, we can. Yes, we can. Yes, we can.

Our cuts are on time our rhymes connect
Got the right to vote and will elect

Now I walked through crowds, shook many hands
Spent my time saying YES WE CAN!
I stood on many stages, held many mics
Took airplane flights at great heights
PA and Jersey, I won that fight

Chicago Illinois was so hype
Moving so strong
Biden joined the fight
Now we are a team and we ignite!

Now I crash through walls,
Cut through floors,
Burst through ceilings
Knock down doors.

He is George
And I’m Turan
We’re never far behind
In class we shine
For every living person
With dreams and plans

Keep hope alive –
Think “Yes We Can”

We’re the baddest of the bad
The cool of the cool
I’m Barack
I rock and rule.

I’m Joe. I rock and rule.

BARACK OBAMA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL — 1-31-2009

If you think the Nobel committee jumped the gun… Days after the 2008 presidential election Ludlum Elementary in Long Island petitioned and won the right to have the name of their school changed to Barack Obama Elementary. Watch this and ask yourself if the Nobel committee’s rationale couldn’t be that much different than the students questioned in the news report.

The video below isn’t of students singing but of a woman named Janelle Kirton performing the school song. The song doesn’t mention Obama, it just relies heavily on his platitudes, but pay special attention to the school decorations inter-cut throughout the video.

If that doesn’t creep you out enough, check out this slide-show from the school’s website.

Video Title: “Barack Obama School Song, Do You Hear The Sound, Janelle Kirton, Barack Obama Song.”
