Jillian Bandes Here are the top ten quotes from Solicitor General Elana Kagan as she goes into her fourth day of Senate hearings. 1. "Like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant." — Responding to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who asked Kagan was she was doin…

The Court, Clubs and Discrimination

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:49 PM PDT

Cal Thomas "I wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member." That familiar one-liner has been attributed over the years to the late Groucho Marx, but in light of the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision this week in the case of Christian Legal Society vs. Martinez (UC Hastings), the sentiment it contains may have some contemporary legal relevance. The Court ruled that a public university is not required to subsidize campus groups it considers discriminatory. The Christian...

President Barack Magoo's "The Economy Is Headed in the Right Direction"

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:49 PM PDT

Hugh Hewitt Fresh from his over-hyped pratfall from the Oval Office that left Americans not only wondering if the president actually cared about the Gulf oil spill more than cap-and-tax but also worried that even his teleprompter skills were failing him, President Obama rushed to Racine Wisconsin Wednesday to deliver what must have been the test drive for his stump speech between now and November. It crashed, and with it, hopes of Americans for some common sense on the faltering economy...

Obama's Post-Recession Economy Is a Failure

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:48 PM PDT

Donald Lambro The Obama economy is tanking, its growth rate is slowing, businesses are shedding jobs and a wave of pessimism has sent U.S. stock markets into a nose dive, threatening recovery. Economic forecasters expect the Labor Department to report Friday that the unemployment rate in June remained unchanged -- just shy of 10 percent -- in a weakened jobs market. Home sales were falling sharply, with newly built home sales plunging in May to their lowest level in four decades. The...

Facts Not Fiction

Linda Chavez As someone who has long supported a major overhaul of our immigration laws, I'm sorry to say that President Obama's call this week for new legislation will only make matters worse. With unemployment hovering at almost 10 percent, the country is in no mood to increase the number of legal immigrants or temporary workers in the U.S. And short of doing so, we cannot fully solve the vexing problem of illegal immigration. But an open and honest debate on immigration is difficult with...

Unprecedented Arrogance

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:43 PM PDT

David Limbaugh The Obama administration grows more arrogant, cavalier and fundamentally dishonest every day. Just in the past few days, we've seen a number of troubling examples. Frankly, sometimes it's hard to keep up. In a speech in Wisconsin, Obama was bragging about how wonderful the terrible economy is. You'll recall that during both of President George W. Bush's terms, Democrats, including Obama, castigated him for destroying the economy, despite the existence of empirically...

Declaration Of Independence Day For Kids

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:35 PM PDT

Chuck Baldwin This past week, my son and constitutional attorney, Tim Baldwin, wrote the following and then delivered it to his elementary age Bible class at our church. It tells the story of our brave forebears' struggle for freedom and independence in a way that even children can comprehend. Oh! By the way, the class stood up and clapped after Tim delivered this address. I offer Tim's lesson to my reading audience with the prospect that many of you may want to read this story to your...

Byrd Tributes Go Overboard

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:30 PM PDT

Jonah Goldberg It is a good rule of thumb not to speak ill of the dead. But what to do when a man is celebrated beyond the limits of decorum or common sense? Must we stay silent as others celebrate the beauty and splendor of the emperor's invisible clothes? You probably know why I ask the question. Robert Byrd, the longest-serving member of the Senate in American history, died Monday. It was truly a remarkable career. But what's more remarkable is how he has been lionized b… ...

Something to Light a Firecracker About

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:30 PM PDT

Suzanne Fields Not so long ago, most Americans regarded the Fourth of July as "Independence Day," and called it that -- celebrating liberty and freedom, prizing independence above all. For the graduates of high school and college, Independence Day marks the breaking away from parents, of moving toward responsibility. For many of us, it's a celebration mixed with more than a little concern. Where will this new independence take the young? What kind of adults will they become… ...

Just as before they place so little value of our soldiers lives that they are willing to use them as political pawns.

Months ago I wrote about the media and left lies about Bush and many poo hoo' ed it. When Bush was in office the deficit was 500 billion but with the tax cuts and an unemployment level of 4.6 ( the lowest since the 1960's and the highest it went was 5.0) and with his tax cuts the deficit was starting to go down. This with 9-11, two wars and Katrina to deal with. Then the Dems took over and filibustered everything including keeping the tax cuts. In the last months of 2007 the unemployment...
